Bayfield County events honoring Memorial Day

There are a number of Memorial Day events planned across Bayfield County this weekend to commemorate the men and women who died while serving their country.

There will be a ceremony at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 29 at Across The Pond Veterans Park, west of Iron River. The ceremony will honor Memorial Day and recent updates and progress to the park, including the first Legacy Tiles added to the Veterans' Wall.

The Port Wing American Legion will be conducting a Rifle Salute and Taps on Monday, May 31 at area cemeteries. They will be at:

Cornucopia at 9:00 a.m.
Herbster at 10:00 a.m.
Port Wing at 11:00 a.m.
Orienta at 11:30 a.m.

The Red Cliff VFW will be conducting a Rifle Salute and Taps at:
Red Cliff Cemetery at 8:45 a.m.
Madeline Island at 11:00 a.m.

The Bayfield American Legion will be conducting a Rifle Salute and Taps at the Bayfield Greenwood Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. and a brief ceremony at the downtown park in Bayfield at 11:00 a.m.

Barnes VFW will be conducting a Rifle Salute and Taps at the Barnes Cemetery at 11:00 a.m.

Cable American Legion will be conducting a Rifle Salute and Taps at the following cemeteries:
Sealy at 9:00 a.m.
Drummond at 10:00 a.m.
Cable at 11:00 a.m.

Iron River American Legion and VFW will be conducting a Rifle Salute and Taps at the following cemeteries:

Waino (Everest) at 8:30 a.m.
Oulu (Luther) at 9:00 a.m.
Oulu (Hillcrest) at 9:30 a.m.
Oulu (Pine Glade) at 10:00 a.m.
Tripp at 10:45 a.m.
Iron River (St. Michaels) at 11:30 a.m.
Iron River (City Cemetery) at 12:00
Ino (St. Florian’s) at 12:35 p.m.

Chequamegon Veterans:
Mt. Hope (Ashland) at 11:45 a.m.
St. Agnes (Ashland) at 12:10 p.m.
B’Nai Isreal (Ashland) at 12:30 p.m.
Town of Eileen Memorial (Highland Rd.) at 12:50 p.m.
Moquah at 1:20 p.m.
Woodland Cemetery (Washburn) at 2:20 p.m.

Memorial Day is a day to memorialize the veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
