Ashland police say a student had a gun at school Tuesday.
Parents were notified Wednesday afternoon in a letter from the district. The letter said that police confiscated the weapon and that the person had the gun in school.
"We feel it is important to let all of you know that the District and APD handled the situation immediately and took all precautions possible to keep everyone safe," the letter from Interim District Administrator Chris Patritto said. "We deeply appreciate the APD for all their efforts in assisting us in keeping a safe environment for our students and staff."
According to the School Resource Officer, the high school student had been in school with the gun but had left before law enforcement got the tip.
Officer Ryan Bybee said it was a loaded 9mm pistol. He said they are still investigating why the boy had the gun. He was taken into custody without incident.
It is a felony to have a firearm on school grounds in Wisconsin.
