Storms blew across Minnesota and Wisconsin on Friday, August 14. They started in the early afternoon, quickly picking up in intensity. There were a number of tornado warnings in Cass, Aitkin, Itasca and Carlton Counties. A tornado was confirmed on the ground near Lawler, in Aitkin County.  The National Weather Service will be surveying a number of areas with wind damage to determine if there were additional tornadoes in the Northland.

The storms brought heavy rain, especially to the Grand Rapids area where there were reports of 6 inches. The timing was perfect as the storms moved across the Northland, leaving rainbows and a beautiful sunset behind.
