The forecast for the Minnesota Fishing Opener has been consistent all week, and in one word it can be described as - CHILLY.

Morning lows will be in the upper teens to lower 20s up north with highs topping out in the mid-40s by days end.

You are going to want to dress warm, and don't forget your life jackets. As you know, the water is extremely cold this time of year and even a mild case of hypothermia can endanger your life.

Cooler weather will stick around through the weekend and beginning of next week. Temperatures rebound with a chance of rain by the middle of next week.

Remember, Gov. Walz and the DNR ask anglers to try fishing lakes closer to home this weekend, to help prevent spread of COVID-19.
