Sabrina Ullman: Today’s cooler weather will not stick around
Today will be sunny with cooler temperatures. Afternoon highs will be mostly in the 60s to low 70s, with shoreline communities staying 10-15 degrees cooler. An east wind will have gusts as high as 20 mph.
For those making Mother’s Day plans, a location with air conditioning is recommended on Sunday. Grand Marais will be comfortable with a high of 62 degrees, and Canal Park will also only reach the low 70s. In the rest of the area, temperatures will climb to the 80s and low 90s.
In addition to it being hot on Sunday, there will also be low relative humidity and strong winds. This increases the chance of fires spreading, so a Fire Weather Watch has been issued for most of Minnesota.
We have been dry due to an Omega Block pattern over the U.S., and by the end of the weekend, this will shift to a Rex Block pattern. For us, this means dry and hot conditions early next week. We will see some relief by the end of the week with rain likely on Thursday.
