Lea Zmurko: Still some storm potential

July 5: Showers make an exit tonight

The morning was dreary but conditions are still humid, and another pass of showers is likely before night falls.

The morning storms and fog have dispersed and left the region with a dose of sunshine and some humid, sticky air. As rain chances continue to dwindle this evening light to moderate rainfall can be expected across northern Wisconsin with some quick and isolated showers on the Arrowhead.

Thunderstorms cannot be ruled out as the humidity and wind shears continue this evening; however, the intensity will not be anything like what was observed last night as lapse rates are weaker and the CAPE values have lowers reducing the overall convection and possibility for a strong storm.

Looking at Sunday, the cooler conditions will be a noticeable switch for Northland. A passing cold front will leave the area in the low to mid 70s with dry skies and some partial cloud coverage. Temperatures for the upcoming week will steer into seasonable territory as a zonal flow in the mid to upper levels of the atmosphere sets a comfortable pattern.

There is still the possibility for some short waves to be embedded within bringing in some instability and storm potential on Monday night into Tuesday morning but better chances for any stronger thunderstorms will be for later in the week. Thursday and Friday look to be wet and stormy.
