Lea Zmurko:  Overnight snow makes for a messy morning

January 22: Finally breaking out of the bitter cold

Temperatures are on the rise and sticking to the low teens today as light snow clears out of the Northland.

The overnight clipper continues to cross the Northland bringing widespread light snow across the area as it continues to clear out towards the UP.  Lake effect snow will linger as winds from the northwest persist around 10 to 15 mph this afternoon and through Thursday elevating snow accumulation across the South Shore.

Temperatures continue to increase for the rest of the week, we will see near normal conditions by the weekend. Subzero overnight temperatures and frosty windchills will linger for some as the Northland is reverting to the expected January chill.

There will be another chance for light snow later this week as a few weak shortwaves carry over some small clipper systems.
