Troubles possible for Grandma’s Marathon
With Grandma’s festivities around now, here are the weather conditions for Duluth’s Big Race on Saturday, which look rather interesting at the start of the race. The half marathon may begin with some scattered thunderstorms. It all will be determined by how quickly the severe thunderstorms move through between midnight and 6am. Here is a look at the danger areas of concern.

Friday Night to Saturday AM :
• Thunderstorm complex expected to develop this evening (around 9-10 PM) and last through Saturday morning (around 6-8 AM)
• Damaging winds are possible everywhere (up to 60 mph), Destructive winds up to 80 mph possible mainly in northern MN & WI South Shore. Numerous power outages are likely.
• Very large hail to 2” diameter with the strongest storms
• Heavy rain locally up to 3” is possible (most places up to 1”), with storms producing very heavy rainfall, leading to localized flooding

6am (Two Harbors): Scattered Storms and gusty east winds at 15-25 mph, 55°
9am (French River): Misty and winds continue out of the east 15-25mph, 60°
12pm (Canal Park): Windy, east 15-25 mph, 63°
3pm (Canal Park): Continued brisk lake winds but more sun, east 15-25 mph, 65°
