This weekend plenty of car fanatics lined Garfield Avenue in Duluth to catch a glimpse of over 120 cars stacked with muscle in the only legal street drag races in the country.

"What normally is an illegal event, we make legal in two days in Lincoln Park," said Ryan Kern of Kern and Kompany.

Kern says he enjoys putting on this event for what he believes is and underserved demographic in the Duluth community. Each year he and his team aim to grow the event and bring in faster vehicles.

"There's a lot more power on the street this year. A lot faster cars and vehicles we've never seen. We had over 25 new vehicles participating this year that no one's ever seen, so that was a real treat," added Kern.

According to fans, they love the burning rubber smell, the smoke, the speed and people that come out during this weekend.

"It's a fun day for people to come down and watch because people like speed," said Mike Tillman.

"I think people that just like cars enjoy being together. They enjoy the race, they enjoy the car show, and for Duluth it's a wonderful tourist attraction too," added Linda Lindquist.

The KIA of Duluth Drag Race and Car Show was presented by Bernick Companies and St. Luke's.
