Rethos reimagines historic preservation in Duluth
Rethos, a non-profit organization focused on preservation of historic areas in Minnesota and beyond, held a ribbon cutting for their brand-new Duluth office on Thursday January 23rd.
Their aim in Duluth is to help the community connect with and take better care of historic sites, buildings and homes
“All of our programming has to do with preservation,” said Shannon Laing the Minnesota Main Streets manager with Rethos. “We have our heritage tourism. We’ve got education, like teaching people how to fix their old wooden windows. We also handle historic tax credit work.”
Their work in Duluth is already ramping up with big events on the horizon including Doors open Duluth.
“Doors Open Duluth will be an opportunity for people to go into historic buildings and learn about the history and architecture,” said Laing. “It will be a chance to see what makes those buildings special.”
They are planning a small Doors open Duluth for this coming Fall and a full Doors open Duluth in the Summer of 2026.
