January 20: Braving the artic air today

The cold continues with temperatures well below zero, the Northland will see some improvement as temperatures return to near normal by Wednesday afternoon.

It is a great day to stay indoors as artic cold airs continues to keep temperatures well below zero. Wind chills continue to stay in the dangerous range between 20 to 40 degrees below zero and an extreme cold warning remains in effect until Tuesday afternoon.

Clouds will reman sparce for many along the South Shore, but the lake effect snow will continue to accumulate from the Bayfield Peninsula out eastward onto the Upper Peninsula. At most 2 to 4 inches can be expected by this time tomorrow. A dusting of snow may make its way to the North Shore as winds shift to the northeast Tuesday afternoon.

Temperatures will make it above zero by the middle of the day Wednesday and conditions will seem seasonal as highs stay in the upper teens through the upcoming weekend.

A chance of flurries before noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 16. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 15 mph.
