Superior resident injured in house fire

Firefighters rescued a person from a burning home in Superior’s North End on Thursday morning.

A neighbor reported the fire at 1310 Baxter Avenue at 10:34 a.m. Crews arrived on scene two minutes later and found heavy fire coming from the rear of the building on the second story.

After hearing that the a resident may be home, firefighters conducted a search and found the occupant on the second floor. The person was rescued and sent to the hospital by ambulance.

The extent of the person’s injuries as well as their age, name, and gender were not released.

All three Superior fire engines were dispatched to the scene. The department used its callback system to bring off-duty members to headquarters to respond to other calls in the city.

After putting out the fire, crews remained there for several hours to ensure that the fire did not extend to other areas of the building.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The monetary damage to the structure is estimated to be $85,000.
