People in need of food were able to get some much-needed free assistance on Wednesday thanks to Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank.

At least 100 cars lined up in the parking lot of UW Superior's Wessman Arena waiting their turn to receive the food in a drive-by style.

Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank Food Resource Developer Katie Bull says this is a way to address a critical need at a time when so many people need it.

"Just recently, I think with unemployment ending, with people being unsure about what they're going to be able to get from government assistance moving forward, there is more reliance on programs like this," Bull said.

The USDA provided the food through their Coronavirus Food Assistance Program.

This was Second Harvest's third CFAP distribution event at Wessman Arena. They have been held at multiple other Northland locations as well, including last month in Finland.
