Absentee balloting begins Friday in Minnesota and Thursday in Wisconsin.

Superior City Clerk Terri Kalan says they finished mailing out about 4600 ballots on Tuesday after starting about a week ago.

Kalan says there have been about 3600 more absentee ballots mailed out this election versus the 2016 Presidential Election.

Between the pandemic and the Supreme Court ruling on Monday allowing already printed ballots to be mailed out, Kalan says she's never seen anything like it.

"It's been interesting, chaotic, stressful. We've learned a lot just flying by the seat of our pants trying to figure out how to navigate and mitigate problems as they come up," Kalan said.

Minnesotans are recommended to apply for their absentee ballots by October 2. For Wisconsinites, their deadline to apply is October 29.

On election day, Minnesotans need to have their ballots postmarked by the end of the day while in Wisconsin, ballots need to be received.

Kalan says Superior residents should start receiving their ballots in the next day or two. She suggests returning them as soon as possible in case of any hiccups.

They can either be mailed in, put in a drop box outside of the Superior Government Center, or physically brought there.
