Ashland County public health officials are investigating reports of a COVID-19 outbreak at Camp Eagle Ridge in Mellen, Wisconsin. According to a press release from Ashland County on Friday, at least 14 people associated with the camp have tested positive for the coronavirus. Health official say the infected were primarily staff.

"Ashland County Public Health is working with Camp Eagle Ridge leadership and staff to cunduct an investigation to contain the virus," Health Officer, Elizabeth Szot said in the release.

Szot says camp officials have been working closely with the families of all campers this season. "All campers from the entire camp season have been notified of potential risk exposure as an additional precaution."

Camp staff have taken precautions in compliance with American Camp Association Accreditation, and camp officials say staff and campers have had little interaction with others in the community.

Szot says as soon as the outbreak was identified, all campers were sent home with instructions on how to isolate for the recommended period, and to watch for symptoms. Families were also asked to follow up with their local health department and primary care providers.

According to their website, Camp Eagle Ridge is a camp for kids ages 7-17. Campers develop leadership skills, healthy living skills, and a sense of community responsibility while attending their many activities. More about Camp Eagle Ridge.
