Web Extra: Opening Week For Back-to-Back and Defending NCAA Champion UMD Men's Hockey

A wait of six months ends for fans of the UMD Men's Hockey Team as the back-to-back and defending NCAA Champions will return to regular season action this weekend with a home series vs UMass Lowell. On Friday night, UMD will raise their 2019 NCAA Championship Banner at AMSOIL Arena.

UMD is ranked number one both the USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls.

The Bulldogs did see exhibition action last weekend at home, falling 5-3 vs Alberta.

On Wednesday, UMD Head Coach Scott Sandelin as well as forwards Justin Richards, Cole Koepke and Nick Swaney spoke with media members. Topics included the banner ceremony, last week's exhibition game and their thoughts on the upcoming series with UMass Lowell. To hear their comments, click on the video box above.

Sandelin said junior forward Koby Bender will miss three-to-four weeks of action with an upper body injury.

Game time is scheduled for 7:07 p.m. both Friday and Saturday.
