Duluth Denfeld will host a charity basketball game on June 20th, created by Hunters head boys basketball coach Phillip Homere. Alongside him will be members of the community, including police officers, personal trainers, and even Denfeld alum and current Vikings fullback, CJ Ham.

“We’re mainly just making it like a charity event. The plan for that is just to help the less fortunate kids because we have so many that do not play A.A.U. basketball or choose not to play certain sports because they just can’t afford it. So we figured why not put this game together, a chance to have fun and a chance to give back,” said Homere.

Zavier Scott of the Vikings is also set to play, however, he may be no match for Ham, who was close to a big milestone in his high school career.

“So CJ, back in his days in high school, he actually played two years of basketball. He actually reached out to me because he was curious. He was like, ‘I want to know how close I was to scoring a thousand points.’ So I checked for him and I think he was at like 785. So he was pretty close there. I’m like, there’s plenty of guys that don’t even get that much points.”

The Juneteenth charity game will be held June 20th at 7 p.m. at Denfeld High School. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids.
