The saying goes 'one size fits all'. Well one University of Wisconsin Superior (UWS) baseball senior proved he's one athlete that fits all positions.
A week ago Mike Rodriguez became the first Yellowjacket to play at every position in a single game.
He said he "joked around with coach all the time talking about like hey you should try me in this position and try me in that position, and not too long ago I was talking to coach again. I was just like hey let me play first and then out of no where he was like yeah by the end of this season we're going to try to get you in every position. So I was like, just joking, and then it finally came about."
On UWS' roster Rodriguez is billed as an outfielder, but he said he's used to moving around the diamond as a former infielder in high school.
He added that it means to world to him to complete the circuit with this team.
"Just having the support from everybody like it's always a great feeling because you've just got to believe in yourself," Rodriguez said. "Then when you see everybody else believing in you it's like, man, I could really do it."
UWS went on to sweep Martin Luther College in that May 8th road series to close out the regular season 15-19.
They're set to open Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) tournament play on Thursday at Crown College.
