UMD's Emily Balts Named NSIC Setter of the Week, UMD Up 2 Spots to 4th in AVCA D2 Poll

Duluth, Minn. - After a weekend sweep of the field in the St. Cloud State Invitational, UMD senior setter Emily (Torve) Balts was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Setter of the Week.


The Bulldogs also moved up two spots to fourth in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II Poll.

Balts dished out a total of 150 assists (12.5 per set) in the St. Cloud State Invite and was named to the All-Tournament Team. She was able to help the Bulldogs to a .288 clip over the weekend, UMD had a total of 189 kills, and had a season high 51 assists in the Bulldogs' sweep over No. 14 Wheeling Jesuit. Balts was also able to add 10 kills and 24 digs on the weekend.

The last time Balts was named setter of the week was Oct. 15, 2018, ending a streak of four straight. Balts currently sits in sixth all-time in assists at UMD, totaling 4,480.

The Bulldogs will start conference play against Upper Iowa on Friday, Sept. 20 at Romano Gymnasium at 6:00 pm.
