Ice Breaker Tournament at AMSOIL Arena Postponed to 2021

College hockey's opening tournament, the Ice Breaker Tournament, has been postponed to 2021. The decision was announced Tuesday due to health concerns.

The UMD men's hockey team was schedule to host this year's event Oct. 9 - 10, 2020 at AMSOIL Arena. They were set to open the action against the University of Minnesota.

"Given the latest input and guidance from the University, local and state officials as well as public health experts, we have decided at this time it is not possible to host the 2020 Ice Breaker Tournament in a successful manner and have postponed the event to October of 2021," said Josh Berlo, UMD athletic director, in the official press release.

Looking forward, Providence College and Minnesota State University, Mankato have confirmed their ability to remain in the postponed event.  The University of Minnesota has indicated they will not be participating.

All UMD season ticket holders who purchased tickets through the UMD ticket office will receive credit for the 2021 tournament or a refund.

The postponed event will still be held at AMSOIL Arena. The tentative dates are October 15th and 16th, 2021.
