Duluth, Minn. - Homecoming is coming at a good time for the 23rd ranked UMD football team as Wayne State visits.

That's the focus for the 4-1 Bulldogs as they are 2-0 at home. They also look to put last week's lop-sided loss at 3rd ranked MSU-Mankato in the past.

"I don't know know if you learn from that or take any positive from it other than we have to understand that an opportunity is precious from here on out," says Head Coach Curt Wiese.

Still lingering from last Saturday, junior captain and starting QB John Larson left the game in the first half with a upper body injury. Sophomore Garrett Olson stepped in and he had a 130 yards passing and a TD toss. Larson was in street clothes for Tuesday's practice, but hasn't been ruled out for Saturday. Olson and freshman Keagan Calchera took reps on Tuesday.

"John is going to be day-to-day here and if he's not ready to go, we'll have Garrett Olson or Keagan Calchera split reps on Saturday, but right now, our intent is to try and get john ready and get him ready to go," says Wiese.

"That's my job, to back up John and that's my job and whenever he goes down or something happens, it is my job to step up and hopefully lead this team and we'll see what happens this week," says Olson.

UMD hosts (2-3) Wayne State at 1:05 p.m. on Saturday.
