After allowing an early power play goal the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) women's hockey wasn't able to rally, dropping their series opener to the University of Wisconsin-Madison 3-0 Friday afternoon at AMSOIL Arena.

The number one Badgers scored twice in the second period, including another power play goal, to take the 3-0 lead. While the Bulldogs held off Wisconsin in the third period, they weren't able to get their own offense going.

"Had a lot of momentum in the first I thought we were all over them, then they got that goal right away off the penalty kill [and] for us the momentum shifted," UMD head coach Maura Crowell said in a post game press conference. "At any point we could have scored, gained some momentum back, but didn't work out."

UMD netminder Emma Soderberg made 34 saves. The Bulldogs will get a day off before hosting the series finale Sunday at 1:01pm.
