Back from last year's squad are 44 lettermen and 13 starters that went 11-1 and reached the NCAA tournament. Monday helped kick off the 2019-2020 season as the Bulldogs hosted their first preseason practice.

"Some of our key guys, that were big time playmakers for us last fall are sitting up here today," said UMD head coach Curt Weise talking about his five captains that sat alongside him during the team's media availability. "It's these guys responsibility to take the next step as a program," he added.

"I need to escalate the offense even higher," said UMD junior quarterback John Larson. "Last year, I just really wanted to be the starter. This year, I have to focus on all 11 of us out there. We just have to be a lot better," he added.

Between Monday and September 4th, the Bulldogs will have just two days that won't include a practice. September 5th marks opening day.

Just like last year, the team will open with Minot State, but the Bulldogs will get to host the Beavers this year.

UMD is ranked tenth and thirteenth in two national preseason polls.
