No. 9 UMD Ties No. 2 Wisconsin to End Regular Season

The No. 9 UMD women's hockey team closed out their regular season Sunday afternoon with a 5-5 draw over No. 2 Wisconsin. The Badgers scored in overtime to pick up the extra WCHA point.


Kylie Hanley scored first for UMD on the power-play putting them up 1-0 in the first period. Ryleigh Houston made it 2-0 UMD scoring short-handed in the second period. Sydney Brodt scored twice in the third period and Anna Klein netted the Bulldog's final goal making it 5-3.

Wisconsin's Abby Roque and Daryl Watts each scored twice in regulation helping the Badgers to a 5-5 tie. Watts score the overtime goal handing Wisconsin the extra WCHA point.

Wisconsin outshot UMD 35-29, and went 2-of-5 on its power play. The Bulldogs were 1-of-4 on their power play, and had 29 saves from Maddie Rooney, who became UMD's all-time career minutes played by a goaltender record holder 14 minutes into the second period.

The Bulldogs finish up the regular season 16-10-6 overall and 11-8-5 in the WCHA.  UMD will host Bemidji State University next Friday night at AMSOIL Arena in the WCHA playoff quarterfinals.  Game-time is set for 7:07 p.m.
