Duluth, Minn. - It's the first regular season home appearance in six week's for the UMD Men's Hockey Team. Tonight marks the first time the Bulldogs return to conference play in 2019 and they're starting off with a bang by hosting number one ranked St. Cloud State.

Tonight will mark UMD Head Coach Scott Sandelin's return to the Bulldog bench after claiming Silver with Team USA in the World Junior Championships. Aside from facing the number one team in the country a familiar face will be leading the St. Cloud State bench. Tonight will mark the first time that former Assistant UMD Coach Brett Larson will return to the bench not alongside Sandelin. Instead he'll be leading the Huskies. Larson left in April to become SCSU's new Head Coach.

"It's back to league play, it's a huge series. Two of the best teams in the county playing each other, so I think the good thing is I know what we're in for and we're in for a battle this weekend," says Larson.

"Obviously you're focused on winning the game and doing what you can for your team as a coach to help you win the game. When the game is over, you're back to being friends again," says Sandelin.

"Getting to know Lars last year as all the guys did, he's a great guy and he's a great coach. We're really happy for him to have his new role. You know it will be a little different seeing him on the other side of the bench, but we're excited for it," says Sophomore Defenseman Mikey Anderson.

Larson also played for the Bulldogs and is a Duluth Denfeld alum so his ties to Duluth are strong, but they won't be tonight when the puck drops at 7:07 p.m.

Another fun fact, Larson is a former Assistant Coach at Ohio State, returning to UMD in 2015. The Buckeyes are currently ranked fourth nationally.
