Two homers lift Huskies to series sweep over La Crosse Loggers
The Duluth Huskies smacked out two home runs Wednesday night to defeat the La Crosse Loggers 7-4 and earn the series sweep.
Trailing 1-0 in the second inning, Nate Vargas hit the first home run, a two run homer, to take the lead 2-1. Duluth would make it 3-1 by the end of the frame, then in the third Ethan Surowiec smacked out the second homer, a solo shot, to bring the score to 4-1. Duluth tacked on three more runs in the third to lead 7-1. The Loggers attempted a comeback scoring three runs in the ninth, but they weren’t enough.
The Huskies were led by Vargas with one run, one hit, and two RBI, Surowiec with one run, two hits, and one RBI, and Trey Craig with two runs and two hits. Starting on the mound Duluth’s Anthony Andrews pitched seven strikeouts in 7.0 innings, only allowing one run.
The Huskies string together their fifth straight win. They’ll look to make that six visiting the Rochester Honkers Thursday at 6:35 p.m., and then on Friday at 5:05 p.m.
