Winning a state championship is a dream that many, if not all high school athletes strive to achieve. For Trinity Giddings of Two Harbors, that dream was finally realized after four years.

“I just felt obligated to show everyone what I can do because it was like, this is my last time being here and I’ve done the 400 at state for four years in a row and I never have won it, so I just really wanted to win and that was my goal from the very beginning of the season too is just, I wanted to win the 400, so I did it,” said Giddings.

Giddings held off Ely’s Violet Udovich to win the Class A girls 400 meter dash in 56.50 seconds, just .34 seconds ahead of the second place Udovich.

“I had my coach yelling at me and cheering for me at the end of the start line. He was so happy for me because he knows I really wanted it. My boyfriend and my mom and my dad were all there too to watch me and they were so happy I could hear them yelling at me from the stands.”

Giddings next turns to the Nike Nationals, which are June 19th-22nd in Eugene, Oregon.
