St. Thomas stuns #4 UMD women’s hockey as Bulldogs lose fourth straight

UMD women's hockey celebrates goal against Bemidji State
After losing to St. Thomas for the first time in program history, the Bulldogs suffered the same fate on Friday, falling to the Tommies 4-3 in overtime.
The Bulldogs came into the second period firing, despite trailing 2-0. In just a four minute span though, Mary Kate O’Brien, Clara Van Wieren, and Danielle Burgen gave UMD a 3-2 lead, which UMD would hold onto for the rest of the period.
In the third period however, the Tommies scored nine minutes into the frame, and overtime would await.
In overtime, Ella Boerger found the back of the net, sending UMD home with their fourth straight loss and their second ever loss to St. Thomas.
UMD will try to regroup against the top ranked team in the country, Wisconsin, at AMSOIL Arena next Friday at 6:01 p.m.
