St. Scholastica baseball swings to doubleheader sweep over Northland

The College of St. Scholastica (CSS) baseball team earned the doubleheader sweep over Northland College Wednesday, winning game one 8-2 and game two 13-3 at Wade Stadium.

In game one, CSS led 3-0 after the first, with the Lumberjacks tallying two in the second, but the Saints finished the job with a five run fifth inning to win 8-2. Jack Tiemann posted two runs, two hits and two RBI for the Saints, while Finley Spicer put up two runs, two hits and one RBI. Northland’s Jonjay Arreazola put up two hits and two RBI.

In game two, CSS scored three in the first, then a run a piece in innings two through four to lead 6-0 after the fourth. The Saints exploded in the sixth thanks to a number of Northland pitching errors, adding seven runs with three off Saints being hit by pitches with bases loaded and another regular walk. The Lumberjacks scored their three runs in the top of the seventh, but fell 13-3.

CSS (13-14) next visit Concordia Moorhead for a MIAC doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Northland (3-24) next visit Crown Friday at 3 p.m.
