Sandelin Praises Defensive Core After Physical Weekend with Fighting Hawks

The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) men's hockey team will hit the road after splitting with North Dakota. Their series with the Fighting Hawks was not a pleasant one for the Bulldogs. UMD suffered 10 penalties for 31 minutes on Friday and 11 for 33 minutes on Saturday. Head Coach Scott Sandelin said it was beyond frustrating, but commends his defensive core for their efforts.

"The killers, like I said, were outstanding. I thought - that's not an easy task to come off the five minute (penalty) and have multiple penalties you have to kill right after that," said Sandelin. "The scary thing is that as good as our kill was I think North Dakota got better on the power play. That's when 'Shep (Hunter Shepard) really stepped up. I thought he was outstanding.

The No. 4 ranked Bulldogs will hit the road to visit Western Michigan in a weekend series.

In addition, Mikey Anderson, Dylan Samberg, and Noah Cates are among 29 players that have been named to the preliminary roster for the 2019 U.S. National Junior Team.
