For the second year in a row, the Rock Ridge girls basketball team is heading to the state tournament, as the Wolverines beat Hermantown 73-54.

The Wolverines were relentless all game, and despite scoring 73 points, cited their defense as their strong suit.

“Our defense promotes our offense and I thought we did a good job of that starting the game,” said head coach Byron Negen. “Our kids, we try to stress that. The first time we played them, that means nothing. This is a one and done and I thought the kids did a nice job throughout the whole game just playing the next possession, not worried about the score.”

Anna Westby was a key part of the Wolverines win, contributing on both ends.

“I feel like we have even more chemistry than we did last year,” said Westby. “We’ve been spending summers and all winter obviously together and we have a good group here. Basically, we just play the way we played all year.”

The Wolverines now await their state tournament opponent.
