The Warriors (8-2) are making their first state appearance since 1999.

"Deer River has quite a tradition of going to state and we've been there 11 times, so a lot of their big brothers and dads and uncles have been there before. We are just going to try to grind it out," says Brent Schimek, Deer River's Head Coach.

Deer River won the Section 7A crown last week. They''ll meet unbeaten Mahnomen/Waubun Saturday in Brainerd.

Also Saturday, Section 7 (9-Man) Champion Mountain Iron-Buhl makes their first state trip since 2010. The 8-2 Rangers face unbeaten Stephen Argyle Central in Bemidji at 6 p.m.

"Just the experience. These guys were so young the last time we went. It was a blizzard at public schools stadium, but we are hoping with the younger guys that this is going to keep happening," says Mountain Iron-Buhl Head Coach Dan Zubich.

Also Saturday in Brainerd, Two Harbors plays Perham in Class AAA at 3 p.m.

On Friday, Hermantown against Willmar in Monticello in Class AAAA. In Class AA, Moose Lake/Willow River battles Barnesville in Brainerd. In 9-Man, Cromwell-Wright faces Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdahl in Bemidji.
