Instant Classic! Hermantown Edges Greenway in Double OT to Win Section Title

Duluth, Minn. - For the second straight season, Greenway and Hermantown met for the Section 7A Boy's Hockey Title. Hermantown won in 2017 and went on to win their second straight State A Championship. In 2018, the game needed double overtime and top-seeded Hermantown won 5-4 at AMSOIL Arena in Duluth. With the win, the Hawks will make their ninth straight trip to the state hockey tournament in St. Paul. Tyler Watkins ended the game with a goal at 16:46 into the second extra session.

Blake Biondi scored the first goal of the game, connecting at 14:12 into the first period as Hermantown lead 1-0 after one period.

In the second period, Nikolai Rajala tied it up with a goal at 9:29 in for Greenway. The Raiders would take the lead on Wes Johnson's goal later that period.

In the third period, Johnson made it 3-1 at 2:37 into the period. The Hawks cut the lead to 3-2 on Tyler Watkins' goal at 11:25 into the period. Biondi would score his second goal of the game to tie it up and then, with under 2:00 to play, Brady Baker put the Hawks in front 4-3. The Raiders would get a late power play and with one second left on the clock, Cameron Lantz tied it at 4 as the game went to overtime.

After a scoreless first overtime, Watkins scored the game-winner at 16:46 into the second overtime.
