Duluth, Minn. - The northland will be represented by three teams at next week's state baseball tournaments in Minnesota and that includes Duluth Marshall. The Hilltoppers will make their second straight trip to state.

Duluth Marshall beat Esko twice for the Section 7AA Title in the double-elimination tournament. Their bats came alive in game two as the Hilltoppers scored 23 runs. They're hoping their bats stay hot at state. Duluth Marshall will be part of the Class AA Tournament, which begins Thursday in St. Cloud.

"We've really struggled maybe four or even six weeks at the plate and then all of a sudden it felt like kind of a pent up explosion of our offense where everybody relaxed and everybody hit," says Head Coach Joe Wicklund.

"As a team, we were able to put the bats together and scored a lot of runs against a really good team in the state. None of the seniors want it to be over so we keep pushing the team to do the best that they can at every moment of the day," says senior Derrick Winn.

Grand Rapids (Class AAA) and South Ridge (Class A) are also headed to state.

Brackets for all four state tournaments are expected to be released this weekend. Championships for all four classes will be played Saturday, June 16th at Target Field in Minneapolis.
