In the summer the Lake Park Athletic Complex in Duluth is teaming with youth baseball practices and games. Well now, for the first time, it’s also home to an all girls baseball team, the Lake Park Peaches.

Macy Stolp is one of the 11 girls on the team, and her favorite part of being a Peach is, “the girls having fun, and playing against the boys because we like beating them.”

The Peaches are named after the Rockford Peaches, a professional women’s baseball team that operated from 1943-1954. They were famously portrayed in the 1992 film A League of their Own.

In its inaugural summer, the Lake Park Peaches are a program coach Shaun Marshall said he is proud to offer the young girls of Duluth.

“I know there’s statistics that girls tend to stay in sports longer when they play with other girls. So I think it was just an opportunity to get them all together. So far this summer, it’s been awesome. We have a great bunch of girls and a great group of teammates, and it’s been fun,” Marshall said.

These Peaches are having a great season so far, even primarily playing against all boys teams.

For those who may be interested in joining next year, Stolp had this to say: “I was really nervous, but you should just do it because it’s really fun. Even if you’re not good, it’s so fun.”

To register Marshall recommended waiting for the registration window to open next year, then indicate on the application a desire to play on an all girls team. For more on Lake Park Baseball, click here.
