Owen Marsolek talks historic title as first Northlander to win Mr. Baseball Minnesota
Duluth Marshall’s Owen Marsolek was named Mr. Baseball Minnesota on Sunday, and he has became the first Northlander to win that title.
“I think it’s a great example as how much work I put in in the offseason. Also, it’s a good example of what we can provide up here in the Northland for baseball talent. It’s not just me. There’s guys like Nick Terhaar, Max Berrisford, guys that are going to Division I colleges, and they’re going to show up, and that’s just the kind of programs that we build up here.”
The southpaw posted a 1.02 ERA on the mound with 139 strikeouts. At the plate, he hit .474 with 18 RBI, along with a .579 On Base Percentage. Despite the strong individual numbers, Marsolek says he couldn’t have done it without his Hilltoppers, and his support system.
“It’s exhilarating. It was a dream come true for me with my grandparents crying in the back. It was a pretty cool moment. Doing it with the team that we had this year, I couldn’t have done it without them. It’s not necessarily a title that I take for myself. It’s a team that dedicated themselves this year. Honestly, if there was a Mr. Team, it would have been us this year.”
On Monday, Marsolek reopened his college commitment, de-committing from Western Kentucky following a coaching change. He plans to play for the Duluth Huskies this summer.
