Before he laces up his sneakers to compete among the elite field in the 45th Annual Grandma's Marathon weekend, 2012 Olympian Ruben Sanca made a pit stop at the Boys and Girls Club in Duluth.
Sanca initially signed up as a charity runner and raised nearly $600. The plan if for that donated to the Young Athletes Foundation and then distributed to youth athletic organizations in our region.
On Wednesday he spoke to a group of kids spreading his is message that whatever story they have and wherever they come from - to never let go of their dreams.
"They are capable of doing everything in their lives as far as achieving their goals. There is really nothing too special that they need to have. We all have challenges in our lives. Every Olympian has their own story. I want them to believe in their own story to achieve their dream," said Sanca.
Sanca was one of three members of the 2012 Cape Verdean Olympic Team and currently owns four national running records. His goal is to qualify for the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games.
