Northland College baseball head coach Joel Barta has stepped down from the position, it was announced on Tuesday.

"I want to thank the Northland family for being able to come back this past year. But for the past two years I have been working away from my family. Having the opportunity to be at home during these unique times has certainly given me a chance to have extended time with my whole family" said Barta in a press release.

Barta was the first baseball coach in Lumberjack history. When Northland College reintroduced baseball in 2000, Barta was named skipper. He remained in that role until 2006.

Thirteen years later, he returned to the program to take over the reigns in September of 2019. Barta guided the Jacks to their only national playoff game in program history.
