Six Northland Teams Battle in Boys Volleyball at Proctor

Boys prep volleyball continues to expand across Minnesota. Monday evening a handful of Northland teams took the court at Proctor High School.

It marked the first home match for the Proctor-Hermantown boys team.

In total, there are 94 prep boys teams that compete in the state of Minnesota. Six teams represent the Northern Conference, but there has been interest in bringing the sport to 12 other schools, which has many excited about the future.

"Volleyball is the number one participant sport in this country right now," said Proctor-Hermantown Coach Larry Modean. "It's number two in the world; soccer is number one. So, it's about time. They used to have high school boys volleyball in Northern Wisconsin and Southern Minnesota and I think it's coming back."

Floodwood, Cloquet, Hibbing/Chisholm, Grand Rapids, and the Proctor/Hermantown Green and Gold teams competed Monday evening.
