Cates' Late Goal Leads No. 7 UMD to 3-3 Tie, No.1 Denver Wins Shootout

A late third period goal by Noah Cates pushed No. 7 UMD to a 3-3 tie with No. 1 Denver, however the Pioneers would earn the extra NCHC point winning the shootout. 


Liam Finlay scored first for Denver, followed by Brett Edwards in the first period. Cole Koepke put UMD on the board 14:22 making it 2-1 before the end of the first.

Finlay scored his second of the night 15:45 into the second period, putting Denver up 3-1. 

In the third, Kobe Roth made it 3-2, scoring on the power-play 11:35 into the period. With only 30 seconds left, UMD using an extra attacker, Noah Cates scored to tie it 3-3 in regulation. 

After two overtimes it was still 3-3, sending the match into a shootout, where Denver scored to take the extra conference point.

Bulldog goaltender Hunter Shepard made 30 saves. Magnus Chrona, Denver's goalie, made 28 saves.
