This year's tournament is the 10th annual event. It's typically held at Mont du Lac Resort but for the first time competitions are split between two locations, the resort and the Superior Municipal Forest.

The Superior Forest course was recently upgraded from nine holes to a full 18-hole course. It provides longtime competitors a new challenge, with holes situated in the woods, and offers a way for the sport to grow.

"There's a good mix of  wooded holes and open shots so players can kind of get a feel for all types of golf. It's been a great addition to the local community," said Tyler Masseth, the tournament director. "We haven't had a public 18 in the Twin Ports in probably like eight years."

The Lake Superior Open runs from Friday to Sunday and draws over 200 competitors from across the region.
