The Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) Board of Directors approved plans for winter sports state tournaments on Thursday.

The league expects state tournaments to look and feel different due to the restrictions caused by COVID-19, however, this is a big step forward after fall sports went without state tournaments in Minnesota.

Tournament details:

Alpine Skiing - March 10 at Giant's Ridge in Biwabik

Nordic Skiing - March 12 at Giant's Ridge in Biwabik

Dance - March 12-13 at Edina High School

Boys swimming and diving - March 18-20 at the University of Minnesota

Wrestling - March 25-27 at high schools to be determined

Gymnastics - March 26-27 at Champlin Park High School

Girls hockey -

  • Quarterfinals March 26-27
  • Semifinals/finals April 1-3 at the Xcel Energy Center

Boys hockey -

  • Quarterfinals March 30-31
  • Semifinals/finals April 1-3 at the Xcel Energy Center

Girls and boys basketball -

  • Quarterfinals March 30-21 at various sites

  • Finals April 9-10 at Target Center

The last sport to play on a state tournament stage was girls basketball. That tournament was canceled on March 13 midway through the semifinals due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
