The new soccer stadium will not host its first game until next year, but Wednesday the owner of Minnesota United spoke about the impact the stadium is already having in the state.

The development includes more than just the stadium. There is also a plan to develop the area around Allianz Field.

The Midway area already looks much different than it did a year ago. And you can expect it to keep changing and growing as Minnesota United moves in.

As part of a community conversation, United owner Bill McGuire talked about why he felt it was so important to keep soccer in Minnesota.

He also spoke about the impact the stadium is already having on the area around it.

The new development will include residential space, business and entertainment. But they want to make sure they take a thoughtful approach.

"There is a lot of interest from people that we have to approach this, we think, with a composite view of where we want to end up," McGuire said. "Rather than just a piecemeal, throw in whatever somebody happens to want to do at the moment."

The $150 million stadium is being built with all private funds.

Developers are still working on plans for what will go around it.

Right now, Minnesota United is playing games at TCF Bank Stadium on the University of Minnesota campus.
