The girls state basketball tournament tipped off on Tuesday. Mountain Iron-Buhl is advancing to the Class A semifinals, while Grand Rapids fell in the Class AAA quarterfinals.
Mountain Iron-Buhl (MIB), making their 10th trip to state in 11 seasons, downed Cass Lake-Bena 50-49 in Pequot Lakes. Hali Savela tallied 18 points for the Rangers.
MIB advances to face Minneota in the state semifinals April 6th at 12pm at the Target Center.
In Class AAA Grand Rapids fell to the Academy of Holy Angels 93-69.
Taryn Hamling led the Thunderhawks scoring 23 points while Jessika Lofstrom contributed 21 points. They finish their season 18-4.
"They made adjustments, they did what they needed to do and they just didn’t give up, and that was the best that I saw from them," said Grand Rapids head coach Kristine Hamling. "You know it's a good indication of what we have coming into the future."
