Mesabi Range College has hired former WNBA player Tamara Moore as their new head coach of the men's basketball team.

She will replace David Wilson at the helm of the Norsemen who went 6-19 last season. Moore posted on Facebook, "I have been offered the chance to make history by being the first women to ever be hired to run a college men’s basketball program and I’m beyond blessed to start this new decade with this amazing honor."

Moore played six seasons in the WNBA, including one with the Minnesota Lynx in 2002.

The former guard was named a WBCA All-American her senior year in high school in 1998 at Minneapolis North. That year she helped guide the Lady Polars to a state basketball championship and was named Minnesota Miss Basketball.

She attended college at the University of Wisconsin, finishing her career in 2002 as the all-time leader in steals as assists. Moore eventually entered the Badgers' Athletics Hall of Fame.

In 2002 she was selected 15th overall in the WNBA draft by the Miami Sol.
