The Giants are one of three Northland teams that will make the trip. This year marks Grand Rapids third straight trip to state, while the Rangers of Mountain Iron-Buhl are making their eighth straight trip.

Mesabi East (24-6 overall) is coming off a seven-point victory over Proctor in the Section 7AA title game and come into the tournament riding on a four-game win streak.

"We hoped for this kind of season at the beginning of the year. I don't know if we expected it, but we hoped for it," said head coach Chris Whiting.

"It's crazy kind of," said freshman Hannah Hannuksela. "In the beginning of the year it was kind of our goal to go to state. We never really thought it would actually become a reality. We just worked hard at practice every day."

The Giants first bit of action will take place on Wednesday as the team is set to face second-seeded Maranatha Christian Academy (26-4 overall) at 6:00 P.M. at Williams Arena.
