Evans brothers ready to run Grandma's Marathon in-person

It only took 13 minutes to hit 1,000 entries, but there are still spots available for this year's Grandma's Marathon. Three brothers from Duluth are excited to get back to running the race in-person.

Together Matt, Jim and Alan Evans have run in 120 Grandma's Marathons. They are all graduates of Duluth Central. They blame Jim for what has become their family tradition.

Jim has run in Grandma's Marathon 43 times and Alan is trying to have the longest time between sub three hour marathons. They all completed the race virtually this year, but missed running the race together in Duluth.

"Running it virtually I was on a rails to trails out here," said Alan. "I did have one friend that ran the first 20 [miles] with me, but then I was alone. For the last 6 so. It is really helpful to have people out there cheering," he added about racing in-person.

"We don't come together for Christmas. You know when you have your own families you scatter, but Grandma's Marathon in Duluth has been one of these things that has been on our calendars every year," added Matt.

"I want to do 50 grandma's marathons," explained Jim. "A lot of people have the 50 state deal where they do a marathon in every state, but I think doing the same marathon 50 times is a much bigger challenge. If you start when you're 25, that means you can't miss and you have to go until you're 75," he added.

Jim is just 7 races away from running Grandma's Marathon 50 times.
