Lake Superior Sea Dogs Win Only 2020 Amateur Baseball Home Game

Updated: July 05, 2020 11:35 PM

The Lake Superior Sea Dogs downed the Ashland Merchants 8-3 Sunday at Morrie Arnovich Field in Superior.

It was the Wisconsin Amateur Baseball team's only game of the 2020 season in the Twin Ports.

They were forced to shorten their season from 10 Upper 13 League games to six. With seven teams in the league, the Sea Dogs are scheduled to play each of them once.

"Us and Ashland had all away games but then the regulations at Superior changed and so [we were] able to get in against Ashland today [Sunday]. Ashland can't play anything at home this year, but it does give everyone a little sense of normal life," said Sea Dogs team manager Anthony Bush on playing in the Twin Ports.

The game was called due to rain in middle of eighth inning.

Sea Dogs pitcher Jake Lewis had 14 strikeouts in just over seven innings. He allowed one run on four hits and no walks.

Lake Superior’s top hitters were Pete Atiemo who tallied two runs, a double, and one RBI, and Kyle Bellin with one run, and three RBI.

Ashland's Joe Seeger accounted for two RBI.

Lake Superior is now 3-1 in the Upper 13 League and Ashland sits at 1-3. For the full box score, click here.

The Sea Dogs' final two regular season games are schedule for Sunday July 7th at Washburn and July 19th at Glidden.
