On Tuesday Duluth Northern Stars girls hockey head coach Jamie Plesha officially announced her resignation after seven seasons behind the bench.

The move is effective immediately.

In a post on Twitter Plesha sited a lack of outside support and appreciation, and constant push back from parents, as her reasons for departure.

The Northern Stars closed out their 2021-2022 slate with a 6-19 overall record. Their last winning record came during the 2008-2009 season.

Under her coaching, the Northern Stars had three players go on to play at the collegiate level and 11 players with All-Conference honors.

In a press release from the Duluth School District Plesha shared, "to those that shared our vision that high school sports entail much more than wins and losses, I am truly grateful. I am thankful for the opportunity to have coached alongside some incredible people. I am thankful to have had an all-female staff five out of seven years. And I am thankful to have had the opportunity to coach some amazing young women."

Duluth East Activities Director Shawn Roed added, "We are proud and honored to have had Jamie Kenyon-Plesha as our girls hockey coach, along with her dedicated staff, they worked tirelessly over the past seven years on and off the rink"

Denfeld Activities Director Tom Pearson stated, "Jamie Kenyon-Plesha spent seven years building up our girls hockey program here at Duluth Public Schools. She did an amazing job as our head coach and we were lucky to have her lead our program for."

The former Bulldog was the longest serving coach in program history amassing the most wins.
