It was a fairly fun Friday at the Cloquet High School. Two motivational speakers gave students a chance to laugh and learn more about creating a good learning environment.

Craig Hillier and Bill Cordes are longtime friends. They each have separate presentations, but on Friday, were able to work together, which is rare.

Hillier’s presentation is called Break Through, focusing on three R’s: Resiliency, Respect, Respond.

He incorporated funny stories about himself, like learning to ski or having to jump onto a cruise ship, after he and his brother had missed the boat, literally.

Afterwards, he told us, “It was such a good group of students.”

Seniors we talked to seemed to really enjoy it. Aili Buytaerte told us, “It was really fun. It was easy to stay active, and to participate. He told us stories, and then explained how this can relate to your life.”

Luke Sievert added, “We have one chance, right? I think a lot of people are really realizing that took. You’ve got to make the best of it.”

Cordes’ presentation is called the School Unity Project.

“It’s about understanding that we’re all going through something and we’ve all got pains, we’ve all got struggles. And since we’re all going through something and I can’t tell by looking at you what you’re going through, then it makes sense that we treat each other with a little bit of kindness and a little bit, a little bit of respect,” Cordes told us.
